Walters State College, founded in 1970, bills itself as “The Great Smokey Mountains Community College".
Walters State offers more than 70 different programs of study. Majors include African-American Studies, Criminal Justice, Mass Communications, Pre-Medicine, Pre-Physical Therapy, Secondary Education, and Women’s Studies.
The college also has dozens of Technical Education Programs, including Computer Networking, Early Childhood Education, Fire Protection, Greenhouse Management, Industrial Maintenance, Medical Transcription, Paralegal Studies, Quality Control Technology, and Workforce Preparedness.
Walters State has articulation agreements with Carson-Newman College, East Tennessee State 911³Ô¹ÏÍø, Lincoln Memorial 911³Ô¹ÏÍø, 911³Ô¹ÏÍø of Tennessee at Knoxville, Tennessee Technological 911³Ô¹ÏÍø, Tusculum, and Strayer 911³Ô¹ÏÍø. An Articulation Agreement is a contract between a community college and university that the student signs during their first year in school. Walters State also has Direct Transfer Agreements with Carson-Newman College, Cumberland College, King College, Mars Hill College, East Tennessee State 911³Ô¹ÏÍø, Lincoln Memorial 911³Ô¹ÏÍø, 911³Ô¹ÏÍø of Tennessee at Knoxville, Tennessee Technological 911³Ô¹ÏÍø, and Tusculum.
