Introduction

Established in 1966, Yavapai College (YC) provides a cost-effective, high quality education. The college typically has over 8,000 enrolled students and offers more than 3,400 classes that range from accounting to welding. In addition to the Prescott campus, there are four additional campuses including Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Verde Valley, and Sedona. Yavapai鈥檚 broad variety of transfer programs provides students with opportunities for enrollment at Arizona’s three state universities: Arizona State 911吃瓜网, Northern Arizona 911吃瓜网, and the 911吃瓜网 of Arizona.

Academics

Located in the beautiful mountain setting of central Arizona, Yavapai College (YC) – Prescott campus offers academic excellence at a great value. With college costs going up each year, Yavapai-Prescott offers one of the most competitive rates in higher education in the state of Arizona. Yavapai College (YC) is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and has successfully maintained their accredited standing for many years. Yavapai College has the unique distinction of being chosen of just a few national institutions to participate as a pioneer in the HLC Pathways Construction Project; A New Model for Continued Accreditation. Yavapai College’s Nursing Program has two additional accreditations. The Arizona State Board of Nursing and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission have both accredited the college鈥檚 nursing program.

Yavapai College offers a wide and diverse selection of two-year degrees and certificates. Currently, students have the option of selecting from 30 programs from which to earn an associate degree. Programs include subjects like Art, Elementary Education, Accounting and Pre-Engineering. There are currently 54 certificate programs offered for students. Some of the more popular certificate programs include Accounting Assistant and Animal Care and Management.

Busy adults can enjoy the flexible schedule of day, evening, weekend, and online classes. At Yavapai College, students can also complete credits in preparation for transfer to a four-year university. For example, the number of credits earned at Yavapai College has direct transfer potential to YC educational partners such as Arizona State 911吃瓜网, Northern Arizona 911吃瓜网, the 911吃瓜网 of Arizona and others.

Each year, Yavapai College helps hundreds of people earn their General Equivalency Diploma (GED). YC鈥檚 program offers a variety of ways for their students to prepare for their GED for free. Program options include an instructor-led GED preparatory class, individualized self-paced GED Learn Lab or online instructional classes. Either class format you select is free and open exit. Open exit means there is no limit on how long a student needs to attend. Some students have even finished in as little as 5 weeks. Please note that students must be at least 16 years old to enroll in any of the GED programs offered by YC.

Admissions

Yavapai College admission requirements encourage and invite potential students who have demonstrated evidence of success. Students who are at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED or some college credits, are encouraged to apply. Students who are under 18 years of age and do not have a high school diploma or GED may apply for Conditional Admission. If there are additional questions, prospective students are encouraged to contact the Office of Admissions.

Financial Aid

At Yavapai College, financial assistance is offered to all students. One of the first steps in this process is to complete and file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Priority consideration for aid is giving to those students who complete the FAFSA by the school’s deadline. Eligibility requirements and deadlines for federal financial aid must be honored. Funding options include grants, loans, scholarships, Native American grants, and the federal work study program. Financial aid is also available to assist veterans and their eligible dependents.

Scholarships are available to provide financial assistance for deserving YC students. In order to be considered for scholarships, students are required to submit an online a scholarship application as well as the FAFSA. Once these two documents are complete and submitted, students will be considered for all scholarships offered through the Yavapai College Foundation. Additional requirements may apply for specific scholarships and deadlines apply for all applications. The range for scholarship awards is from $500 to $2000 annually.

Some of the more than 80 scholarships include Anonymous Music Scholarship Fund, High School Summer 鈥淏ridge鈥� Grants, Yavapai College Alumni Scholarship Fund, Child Care Assistance Scholarship Fund and the Ray A. Elliott, Jr., Family Scholarship Fund, just to name a few.

Students

Yavapai College boasts a very diverse residence hall community. Since the cost of living in Prescott is 24% more than the national average, living on-campus offers options for those students who are cost conscious. The campus鈥� three residential halls are Marapai, Kachina and Supai. Living on campus allows students to be close to class and campus amenities. Additionally, YC maintains that students who live on campus tend to be more successful academically. Yavapai College boasts of a very active learning center where tutoring services are free to all enrolled students. Campus common areas include the library, weight room, tennis courts, swimming pool, performance hall and art gallery.

Yavapai鈥檚 Student Leadership Council (SLC) plays an active role in promoting campus activities. The campus offers a variety of clubs, activities and events. Some of the campus鈥檚 many clubs include the Agriculture club, Alcoholics Anonymous, Choir, Chess Club and the Robotics club. SLC promotes participation in clubs because engaging in these kinds of activities promotes working as a team, problem solving, dealing with conflict and working within the community.

Athletics

Yavapai鈥檚 athletic teams are called the Roughriders and they compete in Division I of the National Junior College Athletics Association. The colleges鈥� sports include baseball, soccer, softball and volleyball. Yavapai is proud of their athletes and the athletic program as a whole. Most, recently, the volleyball team has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2010-2011 season.
