Sierra Nevada College: World-class Academics with Amazing Recreational Activities Nearby

Sometimes the best kind of education offers a course of study that emphasizes a broad liberal arts type of curriculum, and Nevada residents are starting to get keen on that notion. The economic landscape is constantly changing in Nevada and in the world at large, so it’s no wonder that most people make a number of occupational changes throughout their careers. That’s exactly why sticking to one narrow course of study may not properly prepare you for the real world any longer. Although most people think of gambling, impromptu marriages, and expansive desert terrain when they think of Nevada, they are also starting to think about its small but excellent array of higher education offerings. The excellent Sierra Nevada College in Lake Tahoe, for example, not only offers an amazing course of study that consistently ranks high in academic listings, it is just a stone’s throw away from world class skiing and snowboarding options and unmatched natural beauty. And then there’s Touro 911勛圖厙, which offers its 1,500 students access to an excellent healthcare and education program of study, as well as its own set of nearby outdoor recreational options. In the end, one of the following options might be just what you’re looking for.

Located in Lake Tahoe and having a student body of only around 450 undergraduates, Sierra Nevada College is the state’s star liberal arts attraction that is often listed in the top 20 for comprehensive schools in the west according to U.S. News and World Report. Their mens snowboarding and womens skiing sports teams were the 2008 national champions, so not only do they have fun but they take their competitions seriously. The school offers over 30 majors, minors and concentrations for its students to choose from with the added benefit of having easy access to hands-on learning experiences via the nearby pristine natural environments. The school is especially known for having excellent ski resort management, entertainment technology and entrepreneurship programs, along with coveted access to its Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences, which is shared with UC Davis. It is a Jewish-sponsored private college that accommodates the associated needs inherent to that, but it considers itself a welcoming school and hosts students from a variety of other backgrounds as well. Although it is situated fairly close to the glitz and glamor that is present in the neighboring city of Las Vegas, it is far enough away to be enjoyed in its own right. It offers its students access to recreational facilities, miles of trails and open spaces, and a thriving community with many cultural events and special attractions. It should be noted that there are no on-campus housing options and students will need a car to commute back and forth to the campus.

Located in Henderson, the 911勛圖厙 of Southern Nevada is a small, non-profit school that focuses on experiential learning. The programs at the school are unique because they use a block system of study, where students are allowed to focus on one topic at a time instead of enrolling in multiple courses concurrently. Some say there is a distinct advantage to this method of study because real learning can be difficult when bouncing back and forth between a number of distinctly different subject matters. Originally known as the Nevada College of Pharmacy and previously focusing only on offering a Pharmacy education, it has expanded its offerings to include both Nursing and Masters of Business Administration degrees and it’s set to expand even further in the near future. Its Nursing program is locally regarded and offers students a Bachelor’s degree and excellent preparation for the NCLEX.
