In between Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, the Gulf of Mexico and Mississippi is the great state of Alabama. With a long and intricate history, Alabama found itself at the heart of the Civil War like many other Southern States, and has faced a long road to economic recovery ever since. A state whose economy has traditionally depended very much on agriculture, Alabama’s urban centers and industry continue to grow. With racial tensions and inequalities prevalent in the historic fabric of the state, it will be important for Alabama to move forward economically and socially in the coming years. Post- World War II, Alabama has grown in areas such as manufacturing, education, technology and mineral extraction. From capital city Montgomery to the balmy shores of the Gulf of Mexico, and back to largest city Birmingham, the state of Alabama has gone from French colony to hotbed of controversy, and is today well on its way to becoming a successful, economically strong US southern state.
